5 Best Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for the Skin

Apple cider vinegar is a vinegar made by fermentation of apple juice. It isn't enriched in vitamins and minerals but has some antioxidant properties and contains amino acids. Apple cider vinegar is less acidic than pure vinegar (PH 2-3) because it contains more alkaline contents, however, it's still categorised as acidic in nature. It contains 5-6% acetic acid which is a weak acid. It also contains water and other acids. It gives healthy glowing skin and can treat many skin problems.

Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for Skin:

Apple cider vinegar is good for skin health when using it in the right way. Apple cider vinegar can have the following benefits on the skin.

1- Apple Cider Vinegar for Skin Lightening:

Glycol in apple cider vinegar helps in skin lightening. Its acidic properties inhibit bacteria from spreading while sloughing off dead skin cells. It eliminates impurities from the skin, leaving it soft and supple. It fades spots and removes damaged skin; giving a more clear and more fair complexion.

2- Apple Cider Vinegar for Acne:

Apple cider vinegar can kill acne-causing bacteria -propionibacterium acnes(p.acnes), however, more research is needed. Citric, acetic, lactic and succinic acids in apple cider vinegar can protect skin from breakout and kill p.acnes. It also wanes acne scars by removing dead skin cells from the face. The lactic acid in apple cider vinegar improves skin texture and reduces pigmentations. 3- Apple Cider Vinegar for Skin Tags:

Skin tags can be removed by using apple cider vinegar. The acidity in apple cider vinegar can break down the tissues surrounding the skin tags. For removing a skin tag, soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and put it on the skin tag. Secure this cotton ball with a bandage and leave it for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes remove the cotton ball and clean the area with wiped tissue or tepid water. Repeat this procedure for a few weeks and after that, it'll fall off on its own.

4- Apple Cider Vinegar for Face Wrinkles:

Apple cider vinegar helps in skin cells' tautening and reduces fine lines. It can shrink large pores and improves skin appearance. The organic acid in apple cider vinegar betters cell turnover and lessens wrinkles. Apply apple cider vinegar mixture before applying moisturiser at night and it works as an astringent. Always dilute it before applying it to the face.

5- Apple Cider Vinegar for Dry Skin:

Apple cider vinegar helps in killing harmful bacteria and can be good at easing eczema symptoms. It helps in balancing skin acidity levels. Soaps are alkaline so using apple cider vinegar after washing the face can balance its PH that can improve skin dryness. Tea Tree Oil for Eczema is also good for eczema.

How do I Use Apple Cider Vinegar on the Face?

Never use apple cider vinegar on the face directly. Without dilution, the acidity of apple cider vinegar can harm the skin. Always mix a quarter tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with a three-quarter tablespoon of water before applying it on the face. It's effective for many people but if it causes irritation then one can dilute it more with water or stop using it. Use a more diluted apple cider vinegar mixture when leaving it on the face overnight.

Is Apple Cider Vinegar Harmful to the Skin?

Although apple cider vinegar plays an important role in benefiting skin health, it can harm the skin when using it in excess. It can burn the skin by lowering skin PH, therefore always use diluted apple cider vinegar on the skin and eschew using it in lashings.

How Long Should You Put Apple Cider Vinegar on the Face?

Diluted apple cider vinegar can be left on the face for 15-30 minutes. Afterwards, wash the face with lukewarm water. For skin tautening, one can leave it on the face overnight. Use a more diluted mixture of apple cider vinegar when leaving it on the face overnight.
