10 Korean Skincare steps (Korean Beauty Secret)

Korean Skincare products and Korean skincare steps are getting popular these days because of their positive side effects on the skin. It's not compulsory that you do all 10 steps every day, it depends on your skin type and condition. It's actually using different skin care products on the skin: making it healthy and glowy. If you have a busy routine then you can skip steps and do what suits your routine. People have seen good results after following the Korean beauty routine.

10 Korean Skincare Steps

Korean Skincare Step 1

Oil Cleansing

The first step in the Korean beauty routine is to use an oil-based cleanser to remove any dirt or debris from the skin. It removes makeup and impurities from your face. You can use a Korean oil cleanser or one that suits you. Coconut oil is one of the best oil cleansers. You can also check other oil cleansers on post 10 Best Cleansing Oil.

The basic principle behind oil cleansing is that oil dissolves oil. Our skin produces sebum, a natural oil that helps to keep the skin moisturized and protected. However, when we apply makeup or sunscreen, it can mix with the sebum on our skin, creating a sticky residue that can be difficult to remove with a regular cleanser. This is where oil cleansing comes in – the oil-based cleanser can break down the oil-based impurities, making it easier to remove them from the skin.

To perform an oil cleanse, you'll need an oil-based cleanser that is specifically formulated for cleansing the skin. Some popular oils used in oil cleansers include jojoba oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, and coconut oil. These oils are generally non-comedogenic, meaning they are less likely to clog pores, making them suitable for most skin types.

Here's how to perform an oil cleanse:

1. Oil cleansing works best on dry skin, so make sure your face is clean and dry before starting.

2. Take a small amount of oil cleanser in your hands and massage it onto your face in circular motions. Pay special attention to areas with heavy makeup or impurities.

3. Add a little water to your hands and continue massaging your face. The water will help to emulsify the oil, turning it into a milky consistency.

4. Rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water. Make sure all the oil and impurities are removed from your skin.

5. Follow up with a water-based cleanser: After oil cleansing, it's important to use a water-based cleanser to remove any remaining impurities and to thoroughly cleanse the skin.

Korean Skincare Step 2

Water-Based Cleaner

After using an oil-based cleanser, the next step is to use a water-based cleanser to remove any remaining impurities and to thoroughly cleanse the skin. A foaming or non-foaming water-based cleanser can be used.

Foam cleanser applies on a wet face. It's hard to remove all dirt in just one cleansing step so double cleansing (oil + foam) helps to remove any leftover makeup or dirt from your face. You will feel perfectly cleansed skin.

NEOGEN Dermalogy Real Fresh cleansing Foam,160g /5.6 oz (Green Tea) is a Korean Skincare product. It doesn't only gently cleanse your skin but also hydrates it. It contains green tea which has powerful antioxidants that help in repairing skin cells.

Korean Skincare Step 3

Exfoliator

Exfoliating aids in the removal of dead skin cells and the unclogging of pores. Gentle exfoliation with a scrub or a chemical exfoliant like AHAs or BHAs is common in Korean beauty routines.

It removes dead skin cells from the skin. It clears the thin dull skin layer and leaves bright fresh skin. If you've to use an exfoliator often (3 times a week) then use apricot exfoliators, for weekly use charcoal-based exfoliators are best.

The charcoal-based exfoliators are intense so using them once a week is enough. This step is also not recommended to use on a daily basis.

Korean Skincare Step 4

Toner:

Toner is used to balancing skin PH. It also hydrates the skin. After cleansing and exfoliating your skin needs hydration so toner provides your skin necessary hydration. It helps to prep skin for further process and makes them more effective. Toner is more suitable for oily or acne-prone skin. Its main purpose is to clean skin and shrink the skin's pores.

Depending on the ingredients in the toner, it can provide additional benefits, such as exfoliation, brightening, or soothing the skin.

Toners come in different forms, including liquid, gel, and even spray. They contain a variety of ingredients, including antioxidants, humectants, and exfoliants, depending on their intended use.

To use a toner in your skincare routine, simply apply it to a cotton pad and gently swipe it over your face, avoiding the eye area. Alternatively, some toners can be applied directly to the skin with your hands. Follow up with your other skincare products, such as essence and serums.

Overall, toner is a versatile skincare product that can provide a variety of benefits to the skin. Whether you're looking to balance your skin's pH level, hydrate and moisturize, or provide additional skincare benefits, toner can be a great addition to your skincare routine.

Korean Skincare Step 5

Essence:

The essence is the heart of the Korean beauty routine. It is a hydrating, lightweight product that promotes cell turnover and improves skin texture. It is typically used after toner.

Essence is similar to serum or booster but it's more watery than them so it's more similar to a toner but its purpose isn't cleansing. It helps in hydrating and balancing your skin PH.

You don't have to dab a cotton pad in Korean essence and clean your face but you need to press it on your face with your hands, moving inside out. If you've got an overproduction of sebum or acne on the face then this product isn't suitable for your skin.

Korean Skincare Step 6

Serum or Boosters

Serums contain active ingredients in high concentrations such as vitamins, antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid that penetrate deep into the skin and provide powerful benefits. Because of their concentrated formula, serums and boosters can effectively treat specific skin issues such as wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, acne, or dehydration.

This step is quite helpful when you've spots or pigmentation on the skin. But if you have clear skin then you don't need to follow this step and can skip it. The serum penetrates deeper into the skin and nourishes skin cells. It makes pores smaller and provides necessary moisturization to the skin.

There are a variety of serums and boosters available that are formulated for different skin types and concerns, making them suitable for all skin types. When selecting a serum or booster, it's important to choose one that is formulated for your specific skin concern. Some serums and boosters may contain active ingredients that can be irritating to certain skin types, so it's important to read the ingredients list and do a patch test before applying it to your entire face.

To apply serum or booster, simply apply a small amount to your fingertips and gently massage it into your face and neck. Follow up with your moisturizer and other skincare products as needed.

Serums and boosters can be a great addition to your skincare routine, providing targeted benefits and enhancing the effectiveness of other skincare products.

Korean Skincare Step 7

Sheet Mask

A sheet mask is a skincare product that has gained immense popularity in recent years. It is a facial mask made of a thin sheet that is soaked in various types of serum or liquid-based skincare formulations. These masks are designed to adhere to your skin and provide nourishment and hydration to your face.

Sheet masks are incredibly convenient and easy to use. They come in individual packages, making them ideal for travel or for a quick pampering session at home. To use a sheet mask, you simply remove it from the packaging, unfold it, and apply it to your face. The mask should cover your entire face, including your nose, mouth, and eye area.

Sheet masks are available in a wide range of formulations to address various skincare concerns. Sheet masks are used to provide the skin with an intense burst of hydration and nourishment. They are available in a variety of formulas, including brightening, moisturising, and anti-ageing. Some sheet masks contain ingredients that can help even out skin tone, while others may contain ingredients that can help reduce the appearance of fine lines. Some sheet masks may even contain ingredients that can help soothe irritated or inflamed skin.

The serum or liquid-based formulation in sheet masks penetrates the skin deeply, providing intense hydration and nourishment. By keeping the sheet mask on your face for 15 to 20 minutes, your skin can absorb the maximum amount of serum possible, leaving your skin looking and feeling rejuvenated.

We use a mask to tighten skin pores, however, this step is not recommended to use on a daily basis. You can use a mask twice a week. There're different varieties of sheet masks available in the market. When it is in contact with the skin for 5-10 minutes, your skin absorbs nutrients and moisture.

The best is to choose the one rich in vitamin C as it not only hydrates and brightens the skin but also fades the hyperpigmentation.

Korean Skincare Step 8

Eye Cream

The delicate skin around the eyes is prone to fine lines and wrinkles. An eye cream hydrates and protects this area. Eye cream is a type of skin care product that is specifically designed for the delicate skin around the eyes. The skin around the eyes is thinner and more prone to fine lines, wrinkles, and dryness than the skin on the rest of the face. This is why it is essential to use a product that is formulated to target these concerns.

Eye creams come in a variety of formulations, but they all share the common goal of hydrating and nourishing the skin around the eyes. Many eye creams also contain active ingredients that can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness.

When applying eye cream, it is important to use a gentle touch and avoid pulling or tugging at the skin around the eyes. A small amount of product should be dabbed around the orbital bone, using your ring finger, which is the weakest finger and will apply the least pressure.

It is recommended to use an eye cream twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, after cleansing and toning the skin but the best result comes from using it daily. It is also important to choose an eye cream that is suited to your skin type and concerns.

Some common ingredients found in eye creams include retinol, peptides, caffeine and hyaluronic acid. Retinol is a form of  Vitamin A that can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It includes peptides which are amino acids that can help to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and firmness. Hyaluronic acid is a moisturizing ingredient that can help to plump and hydrate the skin while caffeine is used to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Eye cream is an important step in any skincare routine, especially for those concerned about fine lines, wrinkles, dryness, puffiness and dark circles around the eyes. When choosing an eye cream, it is important to consider your skin type and concerns and to use it consistently for the best results.

Sometimes, we don't give importance to eye cream but it is good for making eyes look young and beautiful. Also, fine lines on the forehead (between eyebrows) and on the eyes side significantly improve after using eye cream.

Korean Skincare Step 9

Face Cream

Moisturizing the skin helps to keep it hydrated and nourished. Because the Korean beauty routine emphasises layering hydration, you may choose to use multiple moisturisers or add facial oils, depending on the needs of your skin.

The face cream is used to treat skin dryness. After all, cleansing, scrubbing, and toning, your skin needs moisturization. If you have oily skin then go for an oil-free moisturizer.

Etude House Moistfull Collagen Cream, 2.53 Fl Oz is a Korean Moistfull Collagen Cream. You need to massage it on your face from the centre to the out. This Cream is quite effective for many people.

Rosehip oil suits many skin types and also there are 4 Best Rosehip Oil Uses that are good to know if you are looking for a good moisturiser.

Korean Skincare Step 10

Suncream (SPF)

Sunscreen is the final step in the Korean beauty routine. Sunscreen protects the skin from the damaging effects of UV radiation, such as premature ageing and skin cancer.

Know the Importance of Suncream as there are so many benefits of using it. Sun rays could do a lot of damage to bared skin. It can give spots, early ageing, pigmentation, sunburns, and so on.

In Summer always use Suncream with 50 + SPF and in Winter you can use Suncream having low SPF.

So, in the end, if you would like to have flawless skin then try the Korean beauty routine. Follow steps that suit your skin type and you won't regret it.
